Roots Manuva - 4everevolution by Martin Lee

Small

Released 17th October, 2011 - Border Music

Veteran rapper Roots Manuva has returned with his latest offering 4everevolution and, to be fair, has once again failed to disappoint.

The south London born rapper, real name Rodney Hylton Smith, has worked with a 'who's who' of the music industry including Gorillaz, DJ Shadow, Fun Lovin' Criminals and Leftfield to name a few.  Now the rapper has released his 8th solo project, an 18 track album showing off his deep distinct baritone voice.

4everevolution contains some seriously tight beats and Roots Manuva manages to stay true to himself by not following hip hop trends in the US.  The production standards throughout the recording are second to none and is refreshing to see that as Roots Manuva approaches the ripe old age of 40 he's still able to keep fresh, innovative and have his finger on the pulse.

Stand out tracks on the album include Skid Valley, which features guest vocals from Skunk Anansie's SkinWha Mek? (complete with steel pan drums) and The Path featuring new vocalist Elan Tamara.

It's an album that not only works for those that are longtime fans of Roots Manuva, but is also a great first album for new fans of the British rapper.

If Roots Manuva can continue like this, chances are he'll be around releasing quality material for sometime yet.

ROOTS MANUVA IS TO PLAY THREE NEW ZEALAND SHOWS IN MARCH 2012!
