Kanye West Drama At Gold Coast Big Day Out

Small

Kanye West was the centre of controversy at the Gold Coast Big Day Out on Sunday night when he took to the stage 45 minutes late.

The delay was blamed on a heavy downpour of rain which was said to have caused technical problems to sound equipment.  Big Day Out promoter Ken West released a statement defending Kanye which read "Stop picking on Kanye, the technical problems that delayed his start time by 45 minutes were from rain damaging our equipment."

He added "The fact that he had the biggest crowd of the day and delivered an incredible performance with the huge crowd staying to the end of set even though it was 45 minutes later than scheduled is a testament to what a great artist he is. The next shows will be amazing. Miss them at your peril".

The Gold Coast Bulletin reports that Kanye West also managed to annoy his fellow headliners Soundgarden.  As the reunited grunge band were playing their set, the sound check from Kanye West's stage could be distinctly heard between songs.  Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell told the crowd "Sounds like there's children playing music there, retarded children, retarded as in held back. There's no other word for it."

The next Big Day Out show takes place in Sydney on Friday 27th January.
