Bret Michaels Suing CBS

Small

Bret Michaels has filed a lawsuit against the US TV network CBS for an incident that happened at the 2009 Tony Awards [see video below].

Michaels was performing at the awards show with his band Poison.  After they had finished their performance of "Nothin' But A Good Time", Michaels was struck in the head by a large sign which was descending from the arena ceiling.  He was subsequently hospitalised after receiving a cut lip and a broken nose.

The singer filed the lawsuit at the Los Angeles Superior Court on March 25, 2011 against CBS for unspecified damages.  The suit also claims that the incident was connected with a brain hemorrhage that Michaels suffered in April last year.

Michaels lawyer Alex Weingarten released a statement which read "The Tony Awards dropped a piece of the stage on Bret's head, and then instead of doing the right thing, joked about it and played it off for ratings ... Bret never wanted to file a lawsuit, but the Tony Awards have left us with no choice. They must be held accountable for almost killing Bret, and that is what we are going to do."
